His Excellency the Governor General Sir Frank Ofagiro Kabui has today officially proclaimed Wednesday, 23rd May 2018 as the date for the Gizo Kolombangara By-Election.

 These are the words of Mrs Lily Chekana, in her welcome note to the church participants during a two day ‘Voter Awareness Church Engagement Strategic Workshop’ organized by the Solomon island Electoral Commission supported by the UNDP Strengthening the Electoral Cycle in Solomon Islands Project (SECSIP).  

The Solomon Islands Electoral Commission (SIEC) has completed a fact-finding mission to Nepal as part of its continuing efforts to improve election management in Solomon Islands.

During the months of August and September, the Solomon Islands Electoral Commission (SIEC), in partnership with the Media Association of the Solomon Islands (MASI) and with support of the UNDP’s Strengthening the Electoral Cycle Project (SECSIP), have continued their collaboration and organized two one-week trainings on Media and Elections for the reporters from the provinces and free-lance professionals based in Gizo Island, Western Province and in Auki, Malaita Province. SECSIP is funded by the European Union, the government of Australia and UNDP.

Former Parliamentarian, Alfred Sasako, has renewed his call for Constituency Voter Booths to be set up in Honiara, saying it is a win, win situation for all stakeholders.
